Applied Statistics

We all have learned statistics in our preliminary mathematics classes where we learn mean, median and mode.In higher classes we lean more about standard deviations and variance.

Wit lot of focus now going into analytics and big data, need & field of statistics has been growing at a rapid pace. There are various distributions which can explain the variance between the data and help us to predict behavior/result of certain inputs if the output is following certain distirbution.

Then there are regression analysis who helps us to directly establish linkage between two variables and let us know these are impacting each other. To learn more about reression click here.

Statistics has various applications and is used mostly in places where some kind of prediction is required -
  • Stock market is a place where statistics are used widely and help analysts to decode the pattern if any.
  • Effectiveness of medicines is estimated using statistical probabilities.
  • Increased risk in the global markets have again made regulators look into statistics to find the default probabilities and capital required for that.

Financial Education - FRM CFA in Solan

Financial education is important in today's age where people are expected to manage their own money unless you are classified as HNIs (High Net Worth) where most of Financial services companies or Banks may offer their services at lesser cost and you can afford it too.

For Individual,It all starts from planning out their income and expenses, Income will be your salary or net profit from your business which you take home. After accounting for living expenses, you need to invest remaining money for it to grow. This blog talks about savings and various other financial products in detail.

When it come to Financial education, it is very wide field where you can learn from portfolio management to derivatives trading. FRM & CFA are the most known courses in the financial industry.

CFA is concentrated on portfolio management and financial products while FRM focuses on Risk Management and is more oriented towards mathematics and statistics. If students, who are already into Finance or have interest to get into finance, takes up these courses - it will not only help them to learn to practical concepts and application of knowledge which they have already acquired but will also add some weight on their CV which can certainly help while preparing/giving interviews for Financial Organizations.

Considering the number of universities and colleges in Solan, we can safely assume that there must be large number of students pursuing finance field. There must be a good coaching institute available in the vicinity so students can enhance their knowledge on these courses or the universities should take a step forward to introduce students to the modern education trends.

UGC NET/JRF Exam Experience

NET/JRF,the most awaited test by all those who seek for good positions in reputed colleges/universities.

I cleared NET in EDUCATION in DECEMBER 2013.When i decided to take this test, few questions that came into my mind were:
  • What type of books shall i read?
  • How much time  shall i devote for my studies?
  • What aspects shall i consider before choosing coaching institute?

I think these are very common questions that we all come across. Here i would like to share my experience with the objective to help all those who wants to take this test.

  • First and formost- “HARDWORK IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS.”
  • To study only COMPETITIVE BOOKS is not enough. We have to go through all the study material of our B.ED,M.ED classes.
  • Best way to give proper time to study is to make a TIME TABLE.In this way, subject and time dividation can be done and equal time we can devote to all subjects.
  • Coaching institutions are like guide for us.From there,we can get study material and proper guidance. But ultimate success is our HARDWORK.
  • Try to solve previous year question papers and  give unit, subject wise test help us a lot. These are the best ways to know our weakest points and we can devote more time to that topic in which we are weak.

Career Counseling

Career Counseling or Career Guidance is one major advantage or facility that students can avail and can play major role in shaping up their career.

After 10th, one will be faced with questions on which stream to choose. Typically in small cities we go by marks to decide if students can do medical/non-medical and get them admitted accordingly. I feel students should be given a chance and we should ask -

  • If they want to pursue engineering degree by appearing for IIT JEE or they want to target something else.
  • If they have interest in pursuing career in accounting or finance by choosing commerce or they want to appear CA exams.

After knowing the interest that student has,  we should select the option based on the potential that student has demonstrated in studies so far. Now a days each and every career option is equally rewarding depending upon the capability that one can demonstrate.

While going for graduation or post graduation / to go for CAT or not, same questions will again repeat and having somebody to discuss and analyze the situation and advise can work as boon for small city students and help them realize their dreams.

CAT Result 2016 - Declared

CAT result for 2016 are out and call letters from various IIMs have been knocking on the doors of lucky & talented few who have been able to bell the CAT.

There will be a long list of unlucky students who despite of their hard work would not have received any call letter from a good MBA college. We will analyze two questions here -

What they should have done differently? - Very first introspection is to see how was their preparation for the exam? did they get the right guidance & direction for preparation? Were they aware of the areas where they should have improved before appearing for exam?. There are number of coaching centers which have opened up in last decade but not all of them are equipped to help students to reach their zenith.

What are the options now? - as someone said there is always an another day. CAT is only an exam and clearing CAT does not entitle you to get a high paying job that you are dreaming of. Weigh in the options that you have in hand and take next step after consulting your friends & family.
